Privacy Policy
Capitol Pulse is a product of Watchpost. We built it to turn public records into plain-English briefs — not to build a profile of you. This policy explains, in straightforward terms, what we collect, why, and what we deliberately don't do.
The short version: We store your email address and your subscription status so we can unlock the features you pay for. We use no third-party advertising trackers. We never sell your personal data.
What we store
- Your email address
- Your subscription tier and status (to unlock paid features)
- Optional push-notification tokens, only if you enable alerts
What we don't
- No full card numbers (Stripe handles payment)
- No selling or renting of your data
- No third-party ad trackers
- No sharing with advertisers
Who we are
Capitol Pulse monitors U.S. congressional stock-trade disclosures filed under the STOCK Act — public records from the U.S. House Clerk — parses them, and delivers plain-English briefs, sector trends, a simulated ("paper trade") portfolio, and optional alerts. It is operated by Watchpost. You can reach us any time at support@trywatchpost.com.
Information we collect
Account and subscription data
When you subscribe, we store your email address and your subscription tier and status (for example, whether you are on a free trial, on Pulse, or on Pulse Pro, and whether that subscription is active). We keep this in a Netlify Blobs key-value store. We use it to sign you in, unlock the features you pay for, and email you about your account when necessary.
Payment data
Payments are handled by Stripe through Stripe Checkout and the Stripe Customer Portal. Stripe collects and processes your card details directly. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe shares back with us only what we need to manage your subscription — for example, whether a payment succeeded and your subscription status. Stripe's handling of your payment information is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.
Alert subscriptions (optional)
If you choose to enable push alerts, your browser generates a push-notification subscription token that we store so we can deliver those alerts. This is entirely optional — if you never enable alerts, we never create or store a token. You can turn alerts off at any time.
On-device preferences
The app uses essential local storage in your own browser to remember things like your subscription tier, your watchlist, and your preferences. This data lives on your device to make the app work. We do not use cookies for advertising, and there are no third-party ad trackers on the site.
How we use your information
- To provide the service — signing you in and unlocking the features tied to your subscription.
- To process subscriptions and billing through Stripe.
- To deliver optional alerts you've asked for.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to comply with the law where required.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
Who we share data with
We keep the list of parties short and name them plainly. We rely on:
- Stripe — to process payments and manage subscriptions.
- Netlify — to host the site and store the small amount of account data described above (Netlify Blobs).
Beyond these, we do not share your personal data with third parties, except where we are legally required to do so or where it is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the service.
Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account with us. If you cancel and ask us to delete your data, we will remove your stored account information, subject to any records we are legally required to keep. You can request deletion at any time by emailing support@trywatchpost.com.
Your choices and rights
- Access or correction: ask us what we hold and have it corrected.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your account data.
- Alerts: enable or disable push notifications at any time.
- Billing: manage or cancel your subscription through the Stripe Customer Portal.
- Local data: clear the app's local storage from your browser at any time.
To exercise any of these, contact support@trywatchpost.com.
Security
We limit what we collect and leave card handling to Stripe. No online service can promise perfect security, but keeping our data footprint small is one of the strongest protections we can offer. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us right away.
Children
Capitol Pulse is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use the service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use Capitol Pulse after an update means you accept the revised policy.
